Roadworks in Schaapkraal
29 April 2025
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to advise the public of intended roadworks along 8th, 9th and 10th Avenue in Schaapkraal. The work starts today, 29 April 2025, and will continue until Thursday, 26 June 2025. Working times are between 07:00 and 17:00, Monday to Friday.
‘Schaapkraal residents will be pleased to know that the City is upgrading 8th, 9th and 10th Avenue to surfaced roads, with kerbs, channelling and stormwater drainage. The scope of the work includes the clearing of the site, excavation of the existing granular pavement layers, tarring of the road and the reconstruction of new pavement layers. We appreciate the patience and cooperation from all road users as we work to improve the road network and keep Cape Town moving on good quality roads,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The roadworks also include:
• Laying of new kerb and channel combinations on either side of the road
• The construction of a new sidewalk with catchpits and manholes being installed
• Directional drilling underneath Strandfontein Road will be done to connect to the existing bulk stormwater line and construction of subsoil drains on either side of the new road will also be repaired or replaced, where necessary
To facilitate the work, partial lane closures will be in place. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and use alternative routes where possible to minimise delays.
Once complete, new road markings will be applied and new road signs will also be erected to improve road safety and visibility.
